Finn on form for Middlesex at rainy Lord’s

Close, day one: Warwickshire 148-3 v Middlesex

Steven Finn took three wickets on a rain-affected first day at Lord’s but Middlesex were frustrated by an unbroken stand of 92 which undid some of their early work.

Bad weather meant play was delayed until 3pm but after being put in Warwickshire made a fast start, scoring 37 from the first 39 balls.

Finn then struck to remove Varun Chopra for 14, caught at slip by Ollie Rayner, while Jonathon Webb made 14 on his Championship debut before he offered up a catch to Sam Robson at short leg.

Robson snaffled another one when Ateeq Javid fended off a Finn delivery to leave Warwickshire on 56-3.

However, Jonathan Trott and Laurie Evans steadied things with patient innings, punctuated by the odd boundary every few overs.

They added 82 in the final session and will be looking to extend their partnership further on Monday’s second day.
