Middlesex skipper Adam Voges admitted the Arctic conditions that brought an early end to his side’s match at Durham had been a “shock to the system”.
Only 14 balls were bowled on the final day of the County Championship Division One game at Chester-le-Street before rain, turning to sleet, led the umpires to call it off.
Durham scampered five singles from the first over of the day, which secured them a third batting point, and they added a further boundary before the weather closed in.
No play had been possible on Tuesday due to snow – which came as a bit of a surprise to Australian Voges.
He said: “This has been a shock to the system for me because I’ve never actually seen snow before.
“We put a satisfactory total on the board but no-one went on, then our first 10 overs with the ball were disappointing.
“We have played some good cricket, but we need to do it for longer periods of time.”
