Batter Orr signs for Middlesex

Middlesex have signed left-handed top-order batter Ali Orr from Hampshire on a deal running until at least the end of the 2029 season.

The 25-year-old came through the Sussex pathway and signed his first professional contract there in 2021, scoring his maiden professional century in only his third game.

He made 51 appearances across all formats for Sussex before joining Hampshire in 2024.

Orr has played 42 first-class matches, scoring more than 2,500 runs at an average of 34 with nine centuries. His highest score of 206 came in Sussex’s 201-run win over Somerset in 2022.

In List A cricket he has made 1,493 runs in 33 appearances at an average of 45.24.

Orr said: “I’m really excited to be joining Middlesex, a club moving in a positive direction with some extremely talented young players.

“This is a fresh start for me, and I’m looking forward to competing across all three formats, consistently making a difference in the side.

“I’m looking forward to getting started and helping the club achieve its goals of promotion into Division One and competing in the T20s.”

Middlesex men’s head coach Peter Fulton said: “I am thrilled to welcome Ali to Middlesex – a player the club has been keeping an eye on for some time now.

“He is a highly talented player who has already proved he can be successful at this level of cricket.

“We see some real upside to his game and think that a fresh start at Middlesex can help him get back to scoring big runs and providing more competition for places in our top order.”
