Silva proud after Fulham win at Tottenham

Marco Silva was proud of his Fulham side after they secured a fine 2-1 victory at Tottenham.

Two early goals set up the win – Kenny Tete’s opener was quickly followed by Harry Wilson’s terrific strike, taking advantage of a woeful error by Spurs keeper Guglielmo Vicario.

Fulham held firm after Mohammed Kudus’ second-half goal for Spurs and earned their first away league win of the season.

“I am very proud of the boys,” Whites boss Silva declared.

“We have been speaking a lot about our games on the road and it was very important for us to finally get the win. We knew it would happen one day.”

The match was effectively decided in a whirlwind opening six minutes in which a deflected Tete strike and a sensational long-range curler from Wilson gave the visitors a two-goal cushion.

Fulham went ahead when Samuel Chukwueze cleverly tricked his way inside from the left and laid the ball across to Tete, whose shot went in after a deflection off Spurs’ Destiny Udogie.

And when Vicario rushed from his goal and was left stranded after giving the ball away, Wilson swept in a glorious long-range strike from the right flank to double the lead.

“To be clinical like we were, scoring twice in the first six minutes, gave us the confidence and the boost that we needed,” Silva said

“The first half was top from ourselves. We probably should have scored more—the way we controlled our game during the first 35 minutes was very pleasing.

“We created a lot of problems for them and didn’t give them anything clear-cut. We showed the quality and emotional balance to stay in the game.

“Overall, the best team won the game, in my opinion, and we are very pleased to take these three well-deserved points.”
