Silva ‘positive’ Fulham can secure European place

Boss Marco Silva said Fulham will “fight very hard” for a European place and that he is “positive” they can secure one after a vital 1-0 win at home to Aston Villa massively boosted their chances.

Ryan Sessegnon’s goal a couple of minutes before half-time was enough to give the Whites a deserved victory at Craven Cottage.

Silva declared: “I’m really ambitious and demanding and I want this club to go as far as it can.

“I’m pushing everybody forward, sometimes probably too much, but it’s the way I see football and it’s the way I can live in this job.

“Of course, probably without three points this afternoon it’s going to be much, much more difficult, even if it was not the end for us. Now, because we won the game, we kept ourselves alive in a big battle there.

“They should be proud, really. They should be proud when you are four games to go and you keep ourselves two points from the sixth position, in a position that can allow us to fight for something very important.

“We are going to fight very hard. Let’s see if we can achieve. I’m positive that we can do it.”

The only negative for Fulham was an injury to goalscorer Sessegnon, who limped off with an apparent hamstring problem.

“The only bad thing is the possible injury to Sess. Let’s see what’s going to happen,” said Silva.

“We have been very unlucky recently with some key players for us being out. Let’s hope nothing serious with Sess.”
