Silva nets twice as City beat Fulham

Two goals from David Silva gave the champions a commanding victory over Fulham.

Martin Jol’s side made the worst possible start, going behind after only two minutes at the Etihad Stadium.

Goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer could only parry Edin Dzeko’s shot and Silva smashed home the loose ball.

Fulham almost equalised when Steve Sidwell’s header hit the post, but Manchester City were largely comfortable before doubling their lead on 71 minutes.

After combining nicely with Carlos Tevez, Silva guided his shot beyond Schwarzer and in off the post.

Worst almost followed for the Whites when Silva missed a chance to complete his hat-trick, scuffing his effort when he had only Schwarzer to beat.

Tevez, who was impressive throughout, also went close to scoring in the closing stages.
