Silva hails fans after Fulham almost pull off amazing comeback

Marco Silva praised the connection between his side and Fulham fans after an incredible 5-4 loss to Manchester City at Craven Cottage.

Fulham found themselves 5-1 down early in the second half, but roared back, scoring three goals and almost grabbing a point late on.

Fulham have scored six goals in two games, against Tottenham and City, and Josh King almost equalised in the final moments.

“The character and the personality of the team, what they showed was impressive. Normally, if you are losing the heavy score, home or away, it doesn’t matter, against a side like City, many things can go in their mind,” said Whites boss Silva.

“After the fifth goal of City, you want to react, but you can be thinking ‘OK, the damage is there, probably it’s better to not take any risk’. But the reaction was good from the boys, from our team, and from the fans too.”

Samuel Chukwueze scored twice after Alex Iwobi had made it 5-2. Fans who might have thought about leaving early created a raucous atmosphere as Fulham almost completed an audacious comeback.

Silva said: “Probably looking for that reaction, we deserve probably that fifth goal to equalise.

“Many positives from the game, definitely. The main one, apart from the reaction that was, I repeat again, unbelievable from them, that connection with the fans in the end means really something.

“We didn’t take points from this game, but that reaction, the connection in the end, the respect that they showed for a team that lost and conceded five goals at home, was impressive from the fans as well, and it’s going to give us many things in the future.”
