Big changes needed at Fulham – Parker

Scott Parker says Fulham need to make major changes and learn from their mistakes following their relegation.

The Whites have lost all their games since Parker took caretaker charge following the sacking of Claudio Ranieri.

The club’s return to the Championship was confirmed by a 4-1 defeat at Watford.

It has been a disastrous season despite a summer of big spending following promotion via the play-offs last May.

And Parker will tell the club’s hierarchy in no uncertain terms that there is much work to be done.

Parker said: “We need to sit down and work out where the mistakes were made this year.

“When you get relegated there are some clear issues at the club and we need to get our heads around it and move on from there.

“There have been some initial discussions. The quicker we can do that as a club it puts us in a better position come the start of next season.

“Next season now is massive. The quicker you work out where the mistakes were, the quicker you can say ‘OK, this is the structure, these are the processes we’re going to go through moving forward’, the better chance you have of coming back up next year.

“That’s my advice. That’s what I’ll be saying to the people who need to know. I’ll be putting my points across.”

Fulham’s second-half capitulation at Vicarage Road summed up their dismal season.

“That was us in a snapshot,” former Fulham midfielder Parker admitted.

“I’m gutted. I realised the size of the task and I think we all knew the size of the task in terms of staying in the division, but I think the most disappointing thing is the way we’ve lost tonight.”
