Parker feels West Brom equaliser proved his point

Fulham boss Scott Parker felt West Brom’s late equaliser proved his way is the right way.

After the Whites dominated the game and went 1-0 up through Antony Knockaert, they sat off the visitors and allowed Sami Ajeyi to grab a point at Craven Cottage.

Parker believes it will reinforce his methods and that his players must stick to them.

“I’m disappointed overall. I just felt after the goal we just played into West Brom‘s hands a bit and went away from what were about,” Parker said.

“It played into their hands; a counter-attacking team, with a lot of pace in their front line. We turned it into a bit of a basketball match; back-to-front very early, with 50-50 balls of a sudden.

“If you’re going to pump the ball up to (Aleksandar) Mitrovic with two players on him it’s 50-50 if he’s going to win it. Certainly I felt that was a disappointment really.

“It reinforces what I’m trying to get them to do and I said that to them afterwards. I feel (playing out from the back) it’s the only way we can play and win football matches this year.

“It takes huge bravery to do what they do. I sensed there was an edginess in the crowd, with (Marcus) Bettinelli playing out from the back, but we are doing that for a reason. The easiest thing would be for Bettinelli to bang the ball up to Mitrovic but this team will not win football matches like that.

“If anything it proves my point, certainly to the players. I want them to have the courage to keep doing it.”
