League One Blades send Fulham out

Fulham 0 Sheffield United 1 (After extra time)

Shaun Miller’s dramatic winner in extra time saw League One strugglers Sheffield United dump Fulham out of the FA Cup at Craven Cottage.

The substitute headed home Harry Maguire’s knock-down from close range after 119 minutes of a fourth-round replay the Blades fully deserved to win.

Fulham produced yet another shambolic performance at home and the visitors had several chances to win the game in normal time, with Bob Harris twice going close in the second half.

Pajtim Kasami shaved the outside of the United post just before Miller’s goal sent the away fans into pandemonium.

Whites head coach Rene Meulensteen made eight changes from the side that was demolished at home by Southampton on Saturday, but there was no sign of an improvement.

They were once again outplayed for large periods and only young midfielder Muamer Tankovic had half-decent chances to score from distance in the first half.

Jamie Murphy went close for the visitors early on before left-back Harris threatened with a well-struck free-kick and a vicious long-range effort just after the break.

And Nigel Clough’s side grew stronger towards the end of 90 minutes, having a number of shots blocked inside the area late on.

On-loan Cardiff defender John Brayford went close again for United early in extra time when he dribbled through the centre of midfield and forced a good save from David Stockdale.

And the Blades booked themselves a deserved encounter with either Nottingham Forest or Preston in the fifth round when Miller popped up unmarked to win it.

Fulham (4-4-2): Stockdale; Passley, Hangeland, Burn, Amorebieta; Kasami, Parker (Sidwell 69), Tankovic, Kacaniklic (Duff 59); Dempsey, Rodallega (Dejagah 59)
Subs not used: Stekelenburg, Karagounis, David, Christensen.
