Jol wants Johnson to sign new deal

Fulham manager Martin Jol has urged Andrew Johnson to sign a new contract at Craven Cottage despite interest from QPR.

Johnson’s current deal is due to expire this summer and he had been discussing a contract extension prior to a bid being tabled by the R’s.

That offer was snubbed by Fulham, and Jol says the 30-year-old still has the option of re-signing.

“There has been a lot of speculation [about Fulham players] but for him it was different,” Jol said. “QPR made an offer for him but it wasn’t good enough to even think about.

“If I could get another striker that is better than him then we’d have to pay a lot of money so it would be silly to let him go for what was offered.

Jol confirmed: “There is a contract offer still on the table, and I want him to stay.”
