Jol frustrated after Fulham draw

Boss Martin Jol spoke of his frustration after Fulham could only draw with FC Twente despite dominating much of the game.

Andrew Johnson put the Whites ahead in their opening Europa League group match, but Luuk de Jong’s equaliser secured a point for the Dutch visitors.

The well-taken goal by Johnson, who according to Jol is “close” to signing the new contract he has been discussing, put Fulham in the driving seat.

But after Twente’s fortuitous leveller, the home team’s wastefulness meant a third draw in four matches at Craven Cottage

Jol admitted: “It was the same story. Again we were the better team, but when you don’t score after that kind of pressure it’s always disappointing.

“To draw at home again is disappointing – especially when you see the quality of the players we have up front.

“I feel, especially at home, that we need to take the game to the opposition and score goals, which is what we tried to do.

“We played good football in the first half, but in the second we tried to force the issue and that left space at the back for them to counter attack.”
