Jol considers move for Ajax striker

Fulham manager Martin Jol has confirmed his interest in Ajax’s former Tottenham striker Mounir El Hamdaoui.

Jol has signed the player twice before – first for Spurs and then Ajax – and believes he could make an impact in the Premier League if given another opportunity.

El Hamdaoui, 27, is out of favour at his current club and failed to make an impact after joining Tottenham six years ago.

But Jol told Dutch magazine NU Sport: “It’s not unthinkable for me to sign Mounir. He is incredibly honest and amazingly direct. He could be a pleasant surprise.”

Jol is keen to add to his limited attacking options and recently had a bid for former England Under-21 international Cameron Jerome rejected by Birmingham.

Meanwhile, full-back Carlos Salcido has returned to his native Mexico, joining Tigres on a season-long loan deal.

The 31-year-old impressed after signing for Fulham from PSV Eindhoven last summer, but has since become unsettled in England and his family recently left the country after a robbery at their home.
