Jol confident Dempsey will sign new deal

Fulham boss Martin Jol is confident Clint Dempsey will sign a new long-term deal with the club.

The American, who turned 29 on Friday, is under contract until the end of next season but Fulham want him to stay well beyond then.

Dempsey has scored 18 goals this term and been linked with moves to a number of clubs, including Liverpool.

But Jol believes Dempsey will commit his future to the Whites along with the likes of Andrew Johnson and Danny Murphy.

The Dutchman said: “You want to keep your best players so that is what we try hard to do.

“I hope the four or five players we are talking to will stay and I am confident they will. They realise it is a very good club.

“He [Dempsey] is here for at least another year. We want to keep him here for the next three years.”
