Lasse Vigen Christensen scored an extra-time winner to send Fulham into the EFL Cup third round. Here’s how we rated each Whites player in the 2-1 victory over Middlesbrough.

Jesse Joronen: 7

Pulled off a couple of excellent saves during a difficult opening to the game. A reassuring presence behind an impressive defensive display – this was encouraging stuff from the young keeper.

Jack Grimmer: 7

Had a solid game at right-back before going off after picking up an injury early in the second half.

Richard Stearman: 7

The captain lead the team well. Got caught for Boro’s opener but looked a reassuring presence from then on, barely giving David Nugent a sniff.

Tim Ream: 7

Commanding presence at the heart of the Fulham defence. Won numerous aerial battles and looked calm in possession.

Scott Malone: 8

Relentless in his forays forward. Caused Middlesbrough countless problems on the left-hand side, was involved in both Fulham goals, and looked strong defensively.

Ryan Tunnicliffe: 8

Worked tirelessly without the ball and was excellent in possession. A really good display.

Lasse Vigen Christensen: 8

Popped up with the deserved winner and looked a threat all evening. Has obvious talent, just needs to find consistency.

Dennis Adeniran: 7

Drifted out of the game at times but when involved he showed his promise. Had a couple of attempts on goal too.

Adetayo Edun: 7

Looked comfortable on the ball and was always a threat to the Boro defence.

Jozabed: 7

An assured debut from the Spaniard. Will take time to adapt to the English game but showed numerous flashes of quality with the ball and tried his luck with a well-executed volley in the second half.

Cauley Woodrow: 7

Worked hard up against Boro’s rugged defence. Brought the midfield into play and created several openings of his own. Was unfortunate to not get on the scoresheet.

Sean Kavanagh: 5

Had some problems after replacing Grimmer at right-back, not least during a three-minute spell in the second half when he gave the ball away in his own half and was then booked for a clumsy foul.

Matt Smith: 7

Really made a difference when came on. Led the line well and went close to scoring late in normal time with a header.

Luca de la Torre: 7

Very lively on the right after coming on.
