Fulham are thumped by rampant United

Fulham never threatened an FA Cup upset in their fourth-round clash at Old Trafford.

Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney netted before Javier Hernandez scored twice for a totally dominant Manchester United side.

Aaron Hughes got a 77th-minute consolation goal for the Whites, heading in Giorgos Karagounis’ corner at the near post.

Giggs’ third-minute penalty after Hughes’ handball put United on course for a comprehensive victory.

Fulham were fortunate not to have another penalty awarded against them when Damien Duff handled Giggs’ chip into the area.

Keeper Mark Schwarzer then pushed an effort from Rooney onto the bar as the home team continued to control the game.

United kept pressing and Schwarzer produced another save from Rooney before seeing Nani’s shot flash wide of the post shortly before the interval.

Within seven minutes of the restart, United were three up – Rooney firing home after collecting Anderson’s clever pass and then crossing for Hernandez to score from close range.

Hernandez’s second goal came with the help off a deflection off Hughes, who then reduced the deficit after United switched off at the back.

Rooney found the net again late on but was denied a goal because Hernandez was in an offside position.
