Cameron Jerome’s goal means Derby have a slender advantage after the first leg of the Championship play-off semi-final.

After making a lively start at Pride Park, Fulham struggled during a first-half period in which Derby put them under pressure and scored 11 minutes before half-time.

Craig Forsyth crossed from the left and Jerome beat Matt Targett in the air to power a header beyond keeper Marcus Bettinelli.

Fulham, who were much better after the interval and can feel hopeful ahead of next week’s second leg at Craven Cottage, almost equalised when Kevin McDonald’s effort hit the bar.

Floyd Ayite missed a good chance for the visitors, firing over after being found by Stefan Johansen.

And Ryan Sessegnon, who had a quiet game before being substituted, sent a shot over the bar.

As Fulham continued to pile forward, Derby stood firm and Curtis Davies was outstanding at the heart of the Rams defence.

Fulham: Bettinelli, Fredericks, Sessegnon (Piazon 76), Odoi, McDonald, Johansen (Norwood 88), Cairney, Ayite (Kebano 76), Ream, Targett, Mitrovic.
Subs not used: Button, Christie, Kalas, Kamara.
