Fulham deserved cup triumph – Silva

Marco Silva insisted Fulham fully deserved their FA Cup triumph at Old Trafford.

The Whites secured a place in the quarter-finals by beating Manchester United on penalties.

Keeper Bernd Leno saved two spot-kicks in the shootout to send them through.

And boss Silva declared: “You cannot achieve anything so important in a great place to play football if you don’t fight really hard.

“Our players really fought. In some moments we showed the very good quality, our identity was there.

“To take the game is not easy knowing that Man United love to have the open space to counter-attack but we were brave and we did it. I have to congratulate the players. In the penalty shoot-out I love the composure of our players, the confidence of our players and Bernd did his job.

“I know that Fulham fans are really proud of their team. Overall looking at the game I think we deserved to be in the next stage.”

Fulham will be at home to Crystal Palace in the quarter-finals.

“It’s going to be a great battle between two good sides,” Silva said.

“They have been in great form away from home. We want to be stronger than them. London derby, everything that the fans love.”
