Fulham continue fine start with win at Preston

Preston 1 Fulham 2

Sone Aluko and Matt Smith scored for Fulham as they made it two Championship wins out of two.

Summer signing Aluko headed in from close range on 33 minutes and striker Smith, who netted the winner against Newcastle, struck again midway through the second half.

Tom Cairney was the creator of the all-important second goal, evading several challenges before setting up Smith, who netted at the second attempt.

Callum Robinson pulled one back for Preston with a header but the visitors held on for a deserved victory.

They created plenty of openings, with Cairney going close with an early volley and Smith heading Scott Malone’s header wide before Fulham went ahead.

And Smith had a goal harshly disallowed and bent a shot narrowly wide before eventually getting his name on the scoresheet.

There was a scare for Fulham three minutes from the end when Jermaine Beckford headed in but was adjudged to be offside.
