Symons urges Fulham fans to be patient

Kit Symons urged Fulham supporters to show patience after some booed his team and barracked the Whites boss after a 1-1 draw with Huddersfield.

Cauley Woodrow netted a last-minute equaliser for Fulham, who have only two points having failed to win any of their opening four Championship matches.

Symons said: “I understand it. I’ve been around the game enough time and this football club enough time – I know how it works.

“I know people get restless but also I know that sometimes you need to show real character and get through tough times and it makes you better for it.

“Everyone says ‘be patient, give us time’, and I would say the same things, but people will do what they want to do.

“I will always do the right thing for this football club. Always have done, always will do. It’s not nice when it happens but you need to get on with it.”

Woodrow’s goal at least salvaged a point for the Whites, who are close to completing a deal to sign goalkeeper Joe Lewis on loan from Cardiff City.

Lewis has been lined up following the injury to Marcus Bettinelli, who faces a long spell on the sidelines after suffering knee ligament damage in the midweek defeat at Hull.

Symons said: “Maybe getting a late goal, rather than conceding one, is that bit of luck we need to get going.

“Our four games have been incredibly tight, which is what the Championship is all about, and I’d have liked a bigger points return.”

The former Fulham centre-back added: “We are looking to bring in a goalkeeper on a short-term loan deal, so that will be a bit of good news.

“Jesse Joronen has just come back from injury and played really well in a youth game against Arsenal, but his pathway was always to get loan experience and games under his belt.

“Marcus has damaged ligaments and we are still waiting on surgeon advice on what the procedure is going to be. But he is going to be out for a good few months no matter what.”
