Fulham’s Symons up for managerial award

Fulham boss Kit Symons has been nominated for the Championship manager of the month award for October.

Symons earned himself the full-time post at Craven Cottage in style with home victories over Bolton, Norwich and Charlton lifting the club out of the relegation zone.

Blackburn’s Gary Bowyer and Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe are also on the shortlist, as is Chris Powell, whose Huddersfield side visit Craven Cottage on Saturday.

Fulham are unbeaten in five league matches, their best run in 18 months, but they had to battle back from 2-0 down against Blackpool on Tuesday to preserve that record.

Despite failing to beat a Blackpool side who played 50 minutes with only 10 men, Symons was pleased with the players’ efforts.

He said: “Full credit to the lads, they did really rally second half.

“We scored just before half-time when Scotty [Parker] got one back for us, then with 10 men we knew that they’d drop off and try to consolidate their position a little bit.

“We had a lot of chances second half but we maybe lacked that extra little bit of craft and guile and the final ball to really trouble them.

“Their keeper made a few great saves to be fair to him.”
