Everton v Fulham player ratings
Fulham let a promising first half go to waste as Everton ran out 3-0 winners at Goodison Park. Here’s how we rated each Whites player in the defeat.
Marcus Bettinelli: 6
Led the side out as captain with Tom Cairney and Kevin McDonald on the bench. Made a decent stop to prevent Theo Walcott from opening the scoring in the first half and could do little about each goal conceded.
Denis Odoi: 5
Intercepted well a couple of times and was unfortunate to have his block neatly arrowed in for Gylfi Sigurdsson’s first goal. Was dragged too far wide for the Icelandic’s second, though.
Tim Ream: 5
First league appearance this season for the American, who resumed his partnership with Odoi that thrived for the latter part of last season. Made some shaky passes out from the back and could have done better to block Walcott’s cross for Everton’s second goal, but generally did okay.
Joe Bryan: 5
Linked up well down the left side with Ryan Sessegnon in the first half, although their fluidity broke down as Fulham crumbled after the break. Unlucky to have hobbled off with a hamstring injury after the Whites made all three subs too, leaving them with 10 men for the last few minutes.
André-Frank Zambo Anguissa: 7
Used his body excellently to get a yard of space and protected Fulham’s back line in their new-look 4-2-3-1 shape well, particularly in the first half. Five tackles and a 93% pass success rate should mean he retains his place against Arsenal next weekend.
Jean Michaël Seri: 6
Kept the Fulham pressure ticking over in the first 45 but lost his influence on the game after the break.
Luciano Vietto: 6
Wasted a golden chance to equalise with Fulham on the counter, but his first touch let him down. But looked bright in between the lines as the creative spark in Cairney’s initial absence.
Ryan Sessegnon: 5
Came closest to scoring out of any player in a white shirt on the day, finding the bar at a tight angle just before half-time. Would almost certainly have been a different match had Fulham gone into the interval 1-0 up.
André Schürrle: 5
A tough outing for the German, with Idrissa Gueye closing him down and thwarting several Fulham attacks superbly. Should have put the Whites ahead with a great chance in the early stages, but he missed the target by some margin.
Aleksandar Mitrović: 5
Kept making the right runs and dropped deeper to link up with his three supporting attackers, but grew more frustrated as the game went on. Ended the game – like the rest of his team – with no shots on target.
Cyrus Christie: 5
Came on for the injured Timothy Fosu-Mensah inside the first 10 minutes but struggled to stave off Richarlison’s direct runs. Clumsily brought the Brazilian down in the first half and offered little going forwards.
Tom Cairney: 5
Not the easiest game for the captain to return to, with Fulham falling behind 2-0 just as he was looking to get his team back in the game. Unable to assert his possession-based style on the match from then on.
