Parker keen to have both Cavaleiro and Mitrovic

Fulham have fingers crossed Ivan Cavaleiro comes through a late fitness test so he can face Southampton on Boxing Day.

The Portuguese was on the original teamsheet to face Newcastle last weekend, but ended up in the stand after tweaking a muscle in the warm-up.

The plan had been to pair him with Aleksandar Mitrovic in a double-pronged attack.

In the past, Cavaleiro was used more of a winger, with Mitrovic the lone front man.

However, the Serb has been low on confidence, and Scott Parker believes two very different players playing off each other is the immediate way forward.

“Both players different qualities and they’re there for everyone to see, which is what you need in the Premier League,” the head coach said.

“It means you can attack in different ways, and what Mitro gives to the team obvious as well as his ways of bringing different players into to the game.

“Cav can stretch defences and that makes a difference too.

“They have different attributes, and that’s going to help us.”
