Fulham manager Martin Jol says he would be happy to keep John Arne Riise but admits the player might not accept being second choice.
The 32-year-old left-back said this week he expected to leave Craven Cottage and that the club had agreed to let him go on a free transfer.
But Jol said: “If he was here I would be happy, because John is a fantastic player.
“But he needs to play and if he is second choice at this club I’m not sure he would be a happy customer.
“He deserves to play and that is the only conversation we have had.”
Jol added: “Kieran Richardson did well. He is very fit and he is the type of defender that I like.
“But if something happens to Kieran I would have a fantastic left-back in Riise.”
