Symons booed after Fulham draw with Leeds

Chris Wood’s second-half penalty denied Fulham victory at Craven Cottage, where manager Kit Symons was again barracked by the home fans.

Moussa Dembele put the Whites ahead midway through the first half when he went past Leeds captain Sol Bamba and fired underneath keeper Marco Silvestri – his fourth goal of the season.

But the visitors levelled shortly after the hour mark.

Fulham failed to deal with a corner and an off-balance Ben Pringle handled the ball in the area.

Joe Lewis, playing in the absence of the injured Andy Lonergan, got a firm hand to Wood’s spot-kick but was unable to keep it out of the net.

Symons, whose team have won only one of their last six matches, was booed by frustrated supporters after the final whistle.

Leeds, in their first match under new manager Steve Evans, had plenty of possession after going behind.

On-loan keeper Lewis produced first-half saves to deny Lewis Cook and former Brentford midfielder Stuart Dallas.

And Bamba missed a chance just before the break when he headed over at the far post from Luke Murphy’s right-wing free-kick.

Leeds’ equaliser eventually arrived and they would have taken the lead had Lewis not made three vital stops.

Lewis saved at the feet of Mirco Antenucci and later dived to his left to tip away Dallas’ curling shot.

And in the 90th minute, he dived the other way to push out Antenucci’s goal-bound strike.
