Berbatov has medical at Fulham

Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov has undergone a medical at Fulham.

The two clubs agreed a deal for the Bulgarian just before he was due to fly to Italy to complete a move to Fiorentina.

Berbatov, 31, is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford and has been widely tipped to move on this summer, having made only five first-team appearances last season.

Juventus were also interested in signing him but he appears to have chosen to remain in the Premier League.

Giuseppe Marotta, director general of Juve, has been quoted by Italian media as saying: “There was a proposal by Fulham. We made our own, then the player said he preferred to stay in England for family reasons.”

Fulham are also close to sealing the signing of former United man Kieran Richardson from Sunderland.

A fee has been agreed for the 27-year-old Londoner, who has made it clear he is keen to return to the capital.
