Wages a barrier to Chelsea man moving on – report

Florent Malouda is a January target for Brazilian club Santos but his wages are a potential sticking point, according to the Daily Mirror.

Malouda, 32, is not in Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo’s plans and is tipped to leave Stamford Bridge when the transfer window opens.

He has been strongly linked with a move to Brazil as his wife is from there, and Santos president Luis Alvaro de Oliveira Ribeiro is said to have made overtures to Chelsea.

But it is suggested that Malouda, who currently earns a reported £80,000-a-week, may have to be paid off by the Blues before he moves on.

Meanwhile, The Sun pick up on reports that John Obi Mikel is in line for a new long-term contract.

The Chelsea midfielder is expecting to sign a five-year deal with the club.

His agent John Shittu is quoted as saying: “We are just about finalising the details of it.

“Mikel is one of Chelsea’s most consistent performers and the club agrees with us he deserves a new and improved contract.

“He has a year left and Chelsea have decided to add four more years to it.”
