Speculation continues over Mourinho and Austin

There is speculation over how much Chelsea would have to pay Jose Mourinho if they were to sack him.

The club this week insisted it would stick with the manager despite a terrible start to the season.

The Daily Mirror say Mourinho would be in line for a payout of more than £30m if the club performs a U-turn and decides to replace him.

The Daily Star, meanwhile, put the figure at a world-record £37.5m.

Mourinho signed a new four-year contract in August

There also continues to be speculation over the future of Charlie Austin.

The Star claim the striker intends to see out the remaining year of his contract at QPR rather than leave when the transfer window reopens in January.

The north-east media have continued to insist that he is wanted by Newcastle despite no approach being made.

The Northern Echo have picked up on the Star’s story and again say the Magpies are interested in Austin, but suggest Newcastle have been ‘warned off’.
