Saints v Fulham player ratings

After a couple of encouraging results, Fulham looked disorganised and were comprehensively beaten by Southampton. Here’s how we rated the players in their defeat at St Mary’s.

Maarten Stekelenburg: 7
The keeper was Fulham’s best player, which tells its own story. He was left woefully exposed for the two goals and prevented his team being thrashed by producing saves to deny Adam Lallana, Jay Rodriguez and Rickie Lambert.

Sascha Riether: 5
Had his work cut out at right-back against Lallana and Luke Shaw and was replaced at half-time by Aaron Hughes.

Philippe Senderos: 4
Senderos has many critics – and this kind of display is exactly why. Was all over the place, especially in the first half, and helped out the Saints attackers with number of mishaps and misplaced passes.

Fernando Amorebieta: 5
The defender, who replaced Brede Hangeland, has looked impressive when he has featured this season but he was given all sorts of problems – sometimes by his own team-mates – in a match he will want to forget.

Kieran Richardson: 6
Battled well at full-back, where he was occupied defensively so had no opportunity to get forward. Got sloppy as the game wore on though and switched off too often.

Bryan Ruiz: 6
Certainly not one to track back and ease the pressure on his team while they were under the cosh, but he showed some nice touches and at least offered something resembling an attacking threat.

Scott Parker: 6
Lost the midfield battle but was competitive, winning some crucial challenges and mostly using the ball well.

Steve Sidwell: 6
Another who worked hard but was unable to get control of the midfield. Did better in the second half though.

Pajtim Kasami: 5
The man of the moment after his spectacular goal against Crystal Palace. It was a very different story against a Southampton side that easily contained him.

Dimitar Berbatov: 5
Unable to get into the game and was at fault for the opening goal.

Darren Bent: 6
Worked hard to occupy the Saints defence when he could but had no service and was ineffective before being taken off in the second half.

Aaron Hughes: 6
Did a decent job after being brought on to shore up the defence at half-time, although by then the home side were coasting.
