Rooney tipped to sign contract and United reportedly table Shaw bid

Wayne Rooney is set to turn his back on a possible move to Chelsea or Arsenal by signing a new contract at Manchester United, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Rooney is reportedly closing in on a £300,000-a-week, five-year deal after deciding to end uncertainty over his future and stay at Old Trafford.

The Times also suggest United are increasingly confident Rooney will commit his future to them and sign a new contract.

And The Sun say United plan to make him club captain as part of their efforts to convince him to stay.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mirror say United boss David Moyes has made a £22.5m bid for Southampton’s teenage left-back Luke Shaw.

It is claimed that Chelsea offered £21m for the 18-year-old and that Moyes is looking to tempt him with a lucrative long-term contract and the immediate prospect of regular first-team football.
