QPR v Sunderland player ratings
Charlie Austin scored his first Premier League goal to give QPR their first win back in the top flight. Here’s how we rated the Rangers players in their 1-0 victory against Sunderland.
Rob Green: 8
Made a fine save low down to his left to deny Steven Fletcher in the first half and made two more important stops to preserve Rangers’ lead after the break.
Mauricio Isla: 7
Supplied a couple of very good deliveries and has obvious ability going forward. Vulnerable defensively though, especially when left one-versus-one, and could be targeted by opposing teams as a result.
Rio Ferdinand: 7
Did a solid job at the back. Organised well and, as you would expect, played the ball out from defence effectively.
Steven Caulker: 8
An excellent display from the summer signing. Pace, strength and composure.
Clint Hill: 7
Had a good game at left-back, making the decision to leave him out at the start of the season look even more questionable.
Joey Barton: 8
A fine performance in midfield and his set-piece delivery was immeasurably better than on the opening day against Hull.
Jordon Mutch: 7
Much more effective in the deeper midfield role than further forward. Combined really well with Barton.
Matt Phillips: 7
A good outlet for Rangers on the right-hand side. After a sluggish start to the season, this was much more like it from Phillips, whose crossing can be superb.
Leroy Fer: 8
Great stuff from the Rangers number 10 on his home debut and a vast improvement on his showing at Tottenham last weekend. As well as hitting the bar with a cracking 30-yard effort he teed up Austin for the winner and another chance in the first half.
Junior Hoilett: 6
Drifted out of the game at times but, like Phillips, Hoilett ensured Rangers had pace and directness out wide.
Charlie Austin: 8
A typical Austin performance – was left frustrated early on but he simply kept persisting until he got his reward. A great finish for the goal and he worked hard throughout.
Bobby Zamora: 7
Held the ball up well after coming on for Austin. Used his experience.
Man of the match: Caulker

I love Charlie – he tries very hard but lacks class-does not hold the ball up well. Zamora did when he came on – Sunderland killed us down Isla side firSt 25 mins due to Phillips not tracking back – he improve after then

Totally disagree Alex! Austin did very well. What delighted me most about this match is that the midfield weighed in big time with shots on goal, back tracking and never gave Sunderland any breathing space. This is what Harry wants with his new formation of 3-5-2 and is what you would expect when the team gets used to this system. It was an all action performance! It mirrored the hull performance. Austin is new to prem where so many prolific strikers from lower league fail so how can you complain. He scored with a great finish and created Home chances for himself.

Hoilett- 7 to 8 was dangerous throughout
Phillips 6!- did not give Isla must protection especially first 25 mins
