QPR v Birmingham player ratings

Charlie Austin’s winner  for QPR – his first league goal for the club – gave them another three points. Here’s how we rated the players in their 1-0 victory over Birmingham at Loftus Road.

Rob Green: 6
His fourth consecutive clean sheet was mostly down to Birmingham’s wayward shooting, but his handling was assured.

Danny Simpson: 6
A typical Simpson performance. Steady but failed to really influence the game.

Nedum Onouha: 7
Handled Birmingham’s lone striker Lee Novak easily and was never really extended against limited opposition.

Richard Dunne: 7
A few sticky moments in possession but his class gets him out of jail. Five games, five clean sheets – it looks like he’s enjoying being the big fish in the Championship pond.

Clint Hill: 6
A few nervy moments when Chris Burke got him one-on-one, but Hill was rarely put under major pressure.

Gary O’Neil: 6
Buzzed around the pitch, putting out fires without really making a significant impression. Looked far more comfortable playing centrally in the second half.

Tom Carroll: 5
Was bullied by Tom Adeyemi on his R’s debut. It’s hard to see him adjusting to the bruising nature of a Championship midfield scrap.

Joey Barton: 7
Looked out of sorts in the first half but was QPR’s driving force in the second, when he revelled playing in a midfield three. Once again, his set-piece provided the winning goal.

Junior Hoilett: 6
A couple of runs and flicks but his fitness is a worry after suffering another hamstring injury.

Bobby Zamora: 6
Didn’t do much wrong or right. Never looked on the same wavelength as Charlie Austin and QPR improved, albeit only slightly, when Zamora was replaced.

Charlie Austin: 7
Finally got his first league goal and his tireless work-rate continues to surprise those who thought he was just a goalscorer.

Shaun Wright-Phillips: 7
Harshly dropped after some improved performances and once again looked sharp when introduced from the bench. Won the free kick for the goal and was clever with his passing.

Matt Phillips: 6
Great for him to get 50 minutes under his belt after a spell on the sidelines. That was the only real positive as he looked a yard off his best. There will be plenty more to come though.
