QPR eyeing Serie A defender as Newcastle stall – report

Under-fire QPR boss Mark Hughes is targeting Sweden defender Andreas Granqvist, the Daily Mirror say.

Newcastle and Liverpool are also said to have shown an interest in the 27-year-old former Wigan player, who is tipped to quit Serie A in January.

Hughes supposedly wants owner Tony Fernandes to sanction £4.5m bid.

It is claimed Newcastle boss Alan Pardew had preliminary talks over Granqvist, who was in the Sweden team that beat England last week, but is not sure owner Mike Ashley will approve the spending.

The Mirror also say Chelsea have opened negotiations with Liverpool over the possible sale of Daniel Sturridge.

Liverpool enquired about Sturridge in the summer and Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers is said to want talks to be concluded quickly so he can sign the forward as soon as the transfer window opens in January.

It is claimed Chelsea want to sell because Sturridge’s contract is ticking down and because they are looking to raise funds to help finance the anticipated signing of Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao.

The Daily Mail also suggest Liverpool have contacted the Blues about Sturridge’s availability and that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger wants Theo Walcott’s contract offer improved in order to see off Chelsea’s apparent interest.

The Daily Star say Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo could leave out Eden Hazard as well as Fernando Torres for tonight’s Champions League clash with Juventus.

  • Give Mark Hughes no money, don't give him access to his Football Manager software, tell him to leave West London, and learn how to coach a Football side in the North Wales Postmans League.
The man is an arrogant incompetent with a Car dealer for an agent.
Tony Fernandes, you may have lived on the Uxbridge Road but you should ask the Locals when you've bought a new toy and you don't know how it works.
    Mark Hughes and Kia Joorabchian.......MUG!
