Sunderland manager Martin O’Neill is looking to beat QPR to the signing of Tottenham defender Michael Dawson, according to the Sunday People.
Dawson turned down a move to Loftus Road in the summer and Rangers are hoping to persuade him to make the switch when the transfer window opens next month.
It is claimed Sunderland, who have previously been linked with him, are ready to pay £5m for the centre-back and that he is top of O’Neill’s wanted list.
The Sun on Sunday say QPR, along with Southampton, are interested in Ivory Cost winger Abdul Keita, who is currently with Qatar outfit Al Saad.
The same paper also suggest Adel Taarabt will be asked by boss Harry Redknapp to miss the Africa Cup of Nations with Morocco to help Rangers’ survival bid, and claim that Samba Diakite has told Mali he is unavailable.
And The Independent on Sunday report that Ipswich are keen to sign on-loan R’s striker DJ Campbell on a permanent basis.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are looking to sign Newcastle striker Demba Ba next month, the Sunday Telegraph suggest.
The Blues have previously been linked with Ba and, along with Arsenal, are said to be keen to exploit a £7m release clause in his contract.
The Sunday Telegraph also understand Marina Granovskaia, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich’s personal assistant, flew to Spain this week to hold talks over the possible signings of Atletico Madrid forward Radamel Falcao and Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuaín.
