Norwich v Chelsea player ratings

Late goals from Eden Hazard and Willian – the Brazilian’s first goal for Chelsea – gave them a 3-1 win against Norwich. Here’s how we rated the players in their victory at Carrow Road.

Petr Cech: 7
Almost kept out Antony Pilkington’s header and during the second half had one of his busiest spells so far this season. Made a couple of fine saves and his positioning was excellent.

Branislav Ivanovic: 6
Involved throughout and provided good width. Caught out a couple of times by the pace of the Norwich attacks after the break.

David Luiz: 8
Caught the eye with some wonderfully attack-minded defending. Used the ball as well as he has done so far this season, defended without concern and was error-free in possession. Was beaten in the air for Norwich’s goal but could do little about it.

John Terry: 7
Impressive apart from in the build-up to the goal, when he could be accused of being a little static and lacking anticipation. Organises those around him with true star quality.

Ashley Cole: 6
Steady and solid in defence but had limited impact going forward.

Ramires: 6
Gave the ball away too often early on but settled. Lucky to get away with a foul on Pilkington that looked a certain penalty. Busy and effective but lacking a bit of quality at times.

Frank Lampard: 7
Very influential in the first half but overrun after the break as Norwich pressed more and more. Tidy in possession and refused to panic when the hosts got on top.

Juan Mata: 6
Plenty of tracking back and effort but the flip side was that he was often not in the best position when he had possession in attacking areas. Was taken off just when he would have had his best chance of shining.

Oscar: 8
Hugely impressive again. Cracking goal with the outside of his foot, commendable work-rate and was always involved.

Andre Schurrle: 7
Like several of his team-mates, he was excellent early on but faded a bit after the break. Switched to wing-back with the minimum of fuss and showed excellent fitness and a great team ethic in the closing stages.

Demba Ba: 7
A real handful in the first half when he could have scored three or four goals. An awesome piece of control set up the opening goal and he was unlucky on a couple of occasions. Occupied the home defence despite playing up front on his own, but missed a simple chance after the break and was rarely involved in the second half.

Eden Hazard: 8
Great awareness and anticipation for the crucial second goal, although the finish was not entirely convincing. Turned the game back in Chelsea’s favour.

Willian: 7
Wonderful goal and an encouraging display. The best is yet come.

Samuel Eto’o: 7
His movement and running caused problems and created space for others in his brief time on the pitch.
