Maccabi Tel Aviv v Chelsea player ratings

A point from Chelsea’s final group match, at home to Porto next month, will guarantee a place in the knockout stage of the Champions League after the Blues beat Maccabi Tel Aviv. Here’s how we rated the players in their 4-0 win.

Asmir Begovic: 8
Chelsea were resounding winners in the end but keeper Begovic produced two all-important saves at the start of the second half to keep their 1-0 lead intact.

Cesar Azpilicueta: 6
Went close to scoring an early goal after a nice exchange of passes with Oscar. Didn’t look quite a solid defensively as he usually does, however.

Gary Cahill: 7
Defended well for the most part and scored the opening goal to set Chelsea on their way.

John Terry: 7
An unconvincing clearance might have led to an early goal but he was otherwise solid at the back before going off injured.

Baba Rahman: 6
Had problems in the first half as Maccabi frequently attacked on his flank. He was better after the interval.

Nemanja Matic: 7
Another who got better as the game went on. He was sloppy on the ball at times during a difficult first-half spell but gradually got a foothold in the game.

Cesc Fabregas: 7
His form continues to improve after a poor start to the season. His passing was good and he was involved in much of Chelsea’s best work.

Willian: 8
Excellent stuff once again from the Brazilian, who as always worked relentlessly and showed plenty of quality. Scored Chelsea’s second goal with a fabulous strike – the sixth time he has netted from a free-kick this season.

Oscar: 7
A lively display. Was involved early on, setting up a chance for Azpilicueta, and was a constant threat for Chelsea before popping up with their third goal.

Eden Hazard: 6
Again looked well short of his best. Struggled to get into the match and a misplaced pass shortly before he was substituted summed up another frustrating game for the Belgian.

Diego Costa: 6
Was told by boss Jose Mourinho in no uncertain terms at half-time to up his game. He responded by increasing his work-rate in the second half.

Pedro: 6
Lively in spells after coming on for Hazard midway through the second half.

Kurt Zouma: 7
Came on for Terry and capped what turned out to be a comfortable Chelsea win by making it 4-0.
