Liverpool v Chelsea: player ratings

John Terry was so uncharacteristically awful against Liverpool it was if he and Branislav Ivanovic, who also had an off-night, were trying to convince their team-mates they will not be missed when they sit out the Champions League final. But they weren’t the only ones who performed badly. Here’s how we rated the players on a bad night for the Blues…

Ross Turnbull: 5
Not a good night for the stand-in keeper. Left exposed for Liverpool’s first three goals but was then guilty of a terrible error for the fourth.

Paulo Ferreira: 5
It’s sad to see Ferreira’s Chelsea career peter out like this. Slow, cumbersome and given major problems by Maxi Rodriguez.

John Terry: 4
A truly dismal performance from the Chelsea skipper. For obvious reasons he doesn’t have cause to have one eye on the Champions League final, which makes his display at Anfield all the more inexplicable.

Branislav Ivanovic: 5
Almost as poor as Terry. Lost out in a number of winnable challenges and stupidly gave away a penalty.

Ryan Bertrand: 6
Difficult night for the youngster, but he handled himself pretty well.

Michael Essien: 5
Oh dear. Really struggling since his injury to rediscover anything like his best form. Well off the pace.

Oriol Romeu: 5
Almost as anonymous when actually on the pitch as he has been while hardly featuring all season. The game totally passed him by.

Ramires: 6
Wasn’t at his best, but scored another goal – albeit a fortuitous one – and was one of Chelsea’s better players.

Florent Malouda: 6
Quiet, although he did set up Chelsea’s goal.

Daniel Sturridge: 5
Offered very little going forward and made no real attempt to drop back and help his team when they were being overrun in the first half.

Fernando Torres: 6
Had very little service but worked hard and was unlucky not to score when his effort hit the bar.

Romelu Lukaku: 6
Frustrated at his lack of first-team opportunities so will be kicking himself for not scoring with a close-range header after coming on as a substitute.

how many times did terry get nutmegged lol. lost count after 3. oh on another point when is he in court.

  • Haha yeh our reserves team smashed u in the opening an very unlucky not to be 2 up early on. As u can see we didn't care much for the game wit turnbul in goal so enjoy this win boys as you might be relegated next yr if u keep daglish haha bad luck.

  • You missed Kevin Friends rating. I'd give him 8, he was Chelsea's best player, at least 2 Chelsea players should have seen red and by that I mean cards, and that was just for the persistent challenges on Carroll.
