Huddersfield v QPR player ratings
Junior Hoilett’s equaliser maintained QPR’s unbeaten start to the season, although they had chances to win the game. Here’s how we rated the Rangers players in their somewhat frustrating 1-1 draw at Huddersfield.
Rob Green: 6
Was a spectator for large parts but had to be brave to deny Sean Scannell from close range late on.
Danny Simpson: 6
Started brightly but faded as an attacking option as the game wore on, with his crossing particularly poor. He’s a safe pair of hands though that defends well.
Nedum Onuoha: 8
Dominated proceedings. Hardly put a foot wrong. Some may question him for James Vaughan’s goal but he was left woefully exposed by his team-mates. Made some important clearances and covered his below-par skipper Clint Hill when required.
Clint Hill: 5
Had his pocket picked in dangerous areas during a rather sloppy performance. Martin Paterson should have punished him in the first half but he fired wide. Didn’t shirk a challenge but looked a bit of a liability.
Yuk Suk-Young: 6
Positional-wise he’s very poor and has a lot to learn, but looks eager to impress. He was caught napping when Adam Clayton broke down his side for the goal, but he made amends with the cross for Hoilett’s equaliser.
Joey Barton: 7
His passing was first-class. The spell in Marseille has ironed out any flaws in that department. He did look a little wary of going 100% into challenges though – maybe with one eye on his seemingly inevitable transfer. Unlucky not to score from the rebound when Charlie Austin hit the bar.
Esteben Granero: 5
Brief spells of hope with some incisive passing and tenacious work-rate, but still wants too much time on ball and can switch off, as proved for the goal. There’s a player in there somewhere.
Karl Henry: 6
Ragged start but grew as the game went on. His passing is slow and predicable but that’s not really his job. Broke up play well and improved on his worryingly inadequate debut.
Junior Hoilett: 8
Once again was QPR’s main source of invention and opened his account for the season with a clever touch and toe-poked finish. Final ball let him down on a couple of occasions but his dribbling continues to be pretty lethal.
Andy Johnson: 7
Denied a certain goal by a great Anthony Gerrard block early on and acted as the supplier for Charlie Austin for the remainder of the game – a role he took on with aplomb, highlighted by the superb cross for Austin’s header which smacked the bar.
Charlie Austin: 7
Still very raw in aspects of his game, but in time Austin could become the next big thing at QPR. Gave an honest performance and deserved a goal, twice hitting the side-netting with 20-yard efforts before hitting the bar. Did miss a sitter when through one-on-one in the first half though, hence the lower mark.
Shaun Wright-Phillips: 6
Had a long-range drive palmed away but didn’t really affect the game after coming on.
Jermaine Jenas: 7
Brought a forward momentum to the midfield when replacing Henry. Shame he wasn’t on for longer. Grazed the bar from 25 yards late on.
