Transfer gossip: United close to beat Blues to Chong deal, Mail claim

A round-up of the latest transfer speculation involving Chelsea…

The Daily Mail have again claimed that Manchester United are close to beating Chelsea to the signing of Dutch youngster Tahith Chong.

Chong is on Feyenoord’s books and the Daily Star claimed in September that Chelsea were keen to sign the 16-year-old midfielder.

The Mail later suggested that the Blues and United were vying to sign him and that he favoured a move to Old Trafford.

And on Wednesday the Mail reported that United are on the verge of winning a race to sign Chong that Arsenal are also apparently involved in.

Meanwhile, the Daily Express say recent comments by Edinson Cavani’s brother and agent Fernando Guglielmone are a sign that the Paris St-Germain striker is more likely to join Chelsea than United.

With Italy coach Antonio Conte tipped to take over at Chelsea and Jose Mourinho being linked with United, Guglielmone has been quoted as saying: “Who do I prefer between Mourinho, Conte and (Juventus boss Massimiliano) Allegri?

“They are three big coaches, but for Edy I’d prefer the attacking game of Conte and Allegri.”
