News in brief: Fulham youngsters lose, Costa nominated for award
Fulham
Chris David featured for Fulham’s Under-21 side against Norwich on Monday but goals from the Dutchman and Cauley Woodrow were not enough to prevent a 4-2 defeat. Cameron King and Josh Murphy gave the visitors a two-goal lead at the break before Woodrow cut the deficit by converting a penalty after Patrick Roberts was fouled. However, the Canaries scored twice more during the second half before David netted.
Diego Costa
The Spain striker is the sixth Chelsea player to be nominated for the Fifa/Fifpro World XI for performances for club and country in 2014. Costa joins Blues team-mates Thibaut Courtois, Branislav Ivanovic, Filipe Luis, Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard on the full shortlist of 55 players, unveiled over the past week. Former Blues winger Arjen Robben was also named on Monday among the 15 forwards.
FA Trophy
Wealdstone will host west London rivals Hayes & Yeading United in the first round if they overcome St Albans City in a replay. The Stones drew 1-1 at St Albans in the third qualifying round on Saturday, with the replay at The Vale due to be played on Tuesday night. Hayes & Yeading thrashed Horsham 6-0 to book their place in the first round proper, with ties to be played on 13 December.
Hendon
The club’s Ryman Premier Division game at home to Wingate & Finchley on 27 December has been designated a ‘pay what you want’ fixture.
Middlesex
Andy Balbirnie took 1-34 and scored 36 in Ireland’s 111-run defeat to New Zealand A on Monday. Paul Stirling also played in the match in Dubai, but was out for a seven-ball duck, caught behind off one-time Middlesex team-mate Kyle Mills
Harlequins
James Chisholm, Karl Dickson and Luke Wallace are the three players shortlisted for Quins’ supporters’ player of the month award for November.
