Leicester & Liverpool linked as Defoe flies in ahead of possible QPR move

Jermain Defoe’s arrival back in England has led to more speculation over the striker’s future.

QPR were unable to agree his release from FC Toronto in the final hours of the previous transfer window because his club were reluctant to let him go before the Major League Soccer play-offs.

Rangers are looking to tie up a deal to sign him this month but it has been claimed that they are likely to miss out for financial reasons.

Leicester are reported to be interested in the 32-year-old, Hull boss Steve Bruce has said he would be interested in signing him, while the Daily Star have linked Defoe with possible move to Liverpool.

QPR are looking to do a deal with FC Toronto to sign Defoe

Meanwhile, speculation in the Italian media, subsequently picked up by the Evening Standard, suggests QPR are again looking to sign Yann M’Vila.

Rangers manager Harry Redknapp wanted the French midfielder two years ago but the club were unwilling to meet the player’s demands and M’Vila moved to Rubin Kazan.

He has since moved on loan to Inter Milan, where he has failed to make an impact, and it is claimed that the R’s have approached the Italian club about ending the season-long loan deal so they can have M’Vila with Adel Taarabt joining Inter in exchange.

There has been much speculation about Taarabt’s future as he attempts to secure a return to Italy.

Taarabt, who The Standard claim is on £65,000 week, ended last season on loan at AC Milan but they have shown little interest in a permanent deal despite reports they could sign him.

Italian media reports have also linked QPR with former AC Milan forward Alexandre Pato.

The Brazil international, 25, spent five years with Milan and is currently on loan at Sao Pauo from Corinthians.

  • Spot on garry, absolutley agree. Think harrys signings have been good(Fer, Isla, Vargas, sandro, Caulker and Krancjar(ferdinand being possible exception) which has developed the nucleas of a squad, but as you say we need another four players as the squad is too small and not enough attacking optionsbut he has had to build a squad from nothing. We have still to see the best of Jordan Mutch, Sandro and matty phillips. Regretably I think ferdinand may be a spent force.Big weekend coming up against Burnley, hopefully turning point of the season.....the right way!

  • QPR have floundered recently.
New blood will be essential to rekindle the fire.
As Harry says where is a top Premier League quality striker going to come from.
The West Ham lad I know nothing about but hope he will score goals.
At least he seems determined to do well that is probably the main thing.
Creativity and drive from the midfield collectively has been a problem.
Harry's correct the lads all work hard but no points away speaks for itself.
QPR away from home are unable to score goals and put any pressure on the opposition.
They need to score two goals a game away to win or draw.
How is that going to happen?.
Harry must gamble away after all he appears to have nothing to lose.
I'm of the opinion Harry doesn't have the players to get results away.
I think 4 players are needed and QPR will not commit to that expense.
I'm not even sure if the money was available that these players will be for sale.
Anyway QPR are producing some good performances but last few games not so good.
We are in the mix and that is an achievement from bottom of the league with 4 points not so long ago.
    Come on you R's.
