‘We’ve just got to do the job’ – Chelsea Ladies duo ready for Wembley

Chelsea Ladies: Hannah Blundell and Drew Spence

Chelsea Ladies aim to retain their Women’s FA Cup crown on Saturday when they take on Arsenal Ladies.

Here, England Under-23 defender Hannah Blundell and midfielder Drew Spence – both members of the team that beat Notts County in the first-ever Women’s FA Cup final to be played at Wembley – talk about the game and the key to winning it.

Will the experience of winning at Wembley last year give Chelsea the edge?
DS: “We’ve played in this sort of occasion before and it’s going to be another big one.

“Obviously it’s different opposition and they’ve been in finals before [at other grounds].  A lot of Arsenal’s players have got experience, playing in a World Cup and stuff like that, so there’s experience in both teams.

“We’ve been in that situation before, we’ve just got to do the job.”

What are you expecting from Arsenal and the game itself?
HB: “You can never underestimate Arsenal. They’ve been a top team for however many years.

Hannah Blundell will come up against Arsenal again at Wembley

“It’s a London derby as well, so we know it’s going to be a feisty game.

“But we’re prepared, excited as well, and obviously it will be a big occasion, being at Wembley.

Does the league victory over Arsenal three weeks ago have any bearing?
HB: “We go into every game as a new game, whether we’ve played them previously or not.

“We’re confident within ourselves – we’re very clinical in front of goal, we just need to make sure we stay compact at the back and keep the goals out.”

DS: “It depends how you look at it, because you could get complacent. But we’re confident and it should be a good game.”

What will be the key to winning the Cup?
HB: “We know in midfield it’ll be a tough game, but we’ve got Chappers [Katie Chapman] and Drew in there – strong, tough players against theirs.

“And our strikers are all clinical, we’ve got a variety of goalscorers in this team.”
