Chelsea v Everton player ratings

Fernando Torres scored the winner as Chelsea brought down the curtain on Rafael Benitez’s eventful time at the club by securing third place. Here’s how we rated the players in their 2-1 victory against Everton.

Peter Cech: 7
Organised his defence very well during a second-half onslaught from Everton.

Branislav Ivanovic: 5
On off-day for the defender, who looked uncomfortable at right-back and was caught out a number of times, with one second-half error almost leading to a goal.

Gary Cahill: 5
Found the going tough against the strong Victor Anichebe.

David Luiz: 6
Impressive other than when he gave the ball away in the build-up to Everton’s equaliser – a mistake that will no doubt give ammunition to his remaining detractors.

Ashley Cole: 5
Another who had an unusually poor game. Ineffective going forward and was given problems by the hugely impressive Seamus Coleman.

Nathan Ake: 7
Did well in midfield after a difficult start. Neat and tidy on the ball and willing to tackle. Will be one to watch next season.

Frank Lampard: 7
Missed a decent chance to score but was influential in midfield, using the ball well and always looking to get into the danger area.

Oscar: 6
Has had an excellent season, but struggled to get into this game. A slightly disappointing end to the Brazilian’s campaign.

Juan Mata: 8
Aside from being on hand to score the opening goal, Mata’s all-round contribution was again excellent. His clever movement and lovely range of passing make him a joy to watch.

Demba Ba: 6
Worked hard, but not much came off for the big striker. He does offer an important physical presence up front though.

Fernando Torres: 7
Seemed to enjoy playing alongside Ba. Worried Everton with his movement off the ball and atoned for an earlier miss with a good finish for the winner – his first league goal since December.

Victor Moses: 7
Made a valuable contribution after coming on, cleverly teeing up Torres for the goal.
