Derby v Brentford player ratings

Brentford’s squad players were given a 5-0 thrashing by Championship side Derby County. Here’s how we rated them in their Capital One Cup exit at Pride Park.

Jack Bonham: 5
The new arrival from Watford made a few decent saves but was no match for the quality finishing that earned Derby all five of their goals.

Javi Venta: 5
The experienced full-back was disappointing considering the reputation that precedes him and he was given a hard time by Craig Bryson and Conor Salmon.

Ben Nugent: 5
Sloppy first half and his poor pass led to Derby’s crucial second goal. He improved in the second half but he did little prove he is worthy of a place in the manager’s first 11.

Kevin O’Connor: 6
O’Connor was an assured presence and showed his experience when he positioned himself to clear a Derby opportunity off the line in the first half. There was little he could do to stop Derby’s quality single-handedly however.

Scott Barron: 5
Barron cemented his place at left-back in the absence of the injured Jake Bidwell with a solid performance before he was withdrawn to ensure he is fit to start against Carlisle on Saturday.

Toumani Diagouraga: 5
Found life hard in the middle of midfield, and he couldn’t get anywhere near highly-rated young midfielder Will Hughes, who ran the show for Derby.

Sam Saunders: 6
Saunders worked hard to get a foothold in the game and create chances for his side but he, like many of his team-mates, were chasing shadows for the majority of the evening.

Jake Reeves: 5
The young midfielder also found himself overrun and his passing was misguided at times, which allowed the Derby onslaught to continue.

Josh Clarke: 6
The young debutant has blistering pace and got the better of Derby right-back Craig Forsyth at times but lacked an end product.

Farid El Alagui: 5
The Moroccan striker saw little of the ball as Brentford struggled to give him any service.

Stuart Dallas: 6
Dallas battled hard to make an impression, with a spot on the left-hand side of the Brentford attack up for grabs following Conor McAleny’s return to Everton because of injury, but he did not affect the game.

Aaron Pierre: 5
Pierre replaced Barron at left-back at half-time and did okay but he is far from ready to stake a claim in the Brentford first team.

Alfie Mawson: 6
The youngster made his debut and made some calm interceptions while also finding the right pass out of defence at times.

Luke Norris: 6
Norris was the most impressive of all the youngsters who featured in this game, holding up play well and bullying defenders whilst also showing some quality on the ball.
