Chelsea want Modric as a replacement for Lampard – report

Chelsea want former Tottenham star Luka Modric to replace Frank Lampard, according to The Sun.

It is claimed Blues owner Roman Abramovich plans to offer Real Madrid £22m for the Croatian playmaker in the summer – when Lampard’s contract ends.

Modric, who has been linked with a number of European clubs, was a target for Chelsea prior to his move from Spurs to Real.

There has been speculation that he is unhappy in Madrid and would welcome a return to the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Leeds United manager Neil Warnock is competing with his former club QPR for the signing of striker Habib Habibou, according to the Daily Mail.

It is claimed that Rangers are interested in the 25-year-old Zulte Waregem target man and that Warnock is keen to take him to Elland Road.

R’s boss Harry Redknapp suggested on Friday that he was unaware of Habibou and not looking to sign him.

Rangers are again linked with West Brom striker Peter Odemwingie, with the Mail suggesting he is likely to cost £3.5m and the Daily Mirror claiming that Redknapp is preparing a £4m bid.
