Chelsea v Wolves player ratings

Victor Moses and Oriol Romeu scored their first goals for Chelsea on a comfortable night for Roberto Di Matteo’s side, and there was also a welcome goal for Fernando Torres. Here’s how we rated the Blues players in their 6-0 League Cup demolition of Wolves.

Ross Turnbull: 6
Had little to do the entire match. The only incident of note was when Polish striker Slawomir Peszko broke clean through and rounded him before firing wide of an open goal.

Cesar Azpilicueta: 7
The Spanish international made a fine full debut for his new club. He was threatening down the right-hand side and was rarely troubled off the ball.

Gary Cahill: 7
Scored the opener despite arguably fouling Richard Stearman and like his goalkeeper had little to do. But what he did do he did with minimum fuss.

John Terry: 8
His ongoing hearing at FA headquarters showed no signs of weighing on the shoulders of the Chelsea skipper, who was faultless.

Ryan Bertrand: 8
The young full-back is looking every bit Ashley Cole’s long-term successor. His determination to emulate the England international is stark and he was a constant danger down the left.

Ramires: 7
The Brazilian is adding more steal to his game and he bossed the midfield while making it look easy alongside Oriol Romeu.

Oriol Romeu: 7
Scored his first goal for the club after barely seeing any playing time last season. Was bullish in the middle of the park with Ramires and may start to push for a more regular place.

Victor Moses: 8
Had impressed as a substitute of late and was therefore deservedly given his first start for the club. He won the penalty that allowed Romeu to score, set up Fernando Torres’ header and then grabbed his first goal for the club by nodding in the sixth himself.

Juan Mata: 9
Mata highlighted the gigantic chasm between Championship mediocrity in Wolves’ second string and international class at the top level. He was outstanding.

Lucas Piazon: 6
The 18-year-old Brazilian is likened to Kaka in his home country and did fine off the left on his full debut. Still has a lot to learn however and looked intimidated by the occasion at times.

Fernando Torres: 7
Had a good game and getting on the scoresheet will be a relief before talk of another goal drought raises its ugly head again.

Oscar: 7
Looked lively when he came on and set up Moses’ goal

Marko Marin: 6
A welcome outing as a second-half substitute for the German, who also helped to set up Moses.
