Chelsea v Reading player ratings

Torres got the decisive goal, Ivanovic was outstanding once more and Hazard was arguably Chelsea’s star man again. Here’s how we rated the Blues players in their 4-2 victory at home to Reading.

Petr Cech: 5
A bad moment for Reading’s second goal but fortunately Chelsea spared his blushes by battling back.

Branislav Ivanovic: 8
Another barnstorming performance at both ends of the pitch – and another goal.

Gary Cahill: 6
Found the going tough at times but although his goal was fortunate, he took up a great position to try his luck.

John Terry: 7
Solid enough against the dangerous Pavel Pogrebnyak, whose header for Reading’s first goal was outstanding.

Ashley Cole: 7
Not one of his better games at Wigan on Sunday but was much sharper in this match, setting up the third goal.

John Obi Mikel: 6
Used the ball well but was too easy for Reading’s midfield to play through at times.

Frank Lampard: 7
Impressive both when breaking forward and later while sitting deep after Oscar was introduced. And another well taken penalty.

Eden Hazard: 8
Excellent again. Gave Chris Gunter a terrible time in the first half, culminating in the ragged full-back giving away a penalty.

Ramires: 6
Missed the Wigan game through illness and looked under the weather in this game. Not at his lung-busting best.

Juan Mata: 7
Some great approach play in the first half and played a vital part in Chelsea’s controversial but decisive third goal.

Fernando Torres: 7
Struggled to get into the game at times but produced moments of class and worked hard, so arguably deserved the touch of fortune he had when his goal was allowed to stand.

Oscar: 7
Will take time to adjust to English football but worried the Reading defence when running at them after being brought on as a substitute.

Daniel Sturridge: 7
Lifted the tempo when brought on midway through the second half.
