Chelsea to bid £12m and may spark four-way battle for Barca’s Villa – report

Chelsea plan to offer Barcelona £12m for striker David Villa, according to The Sun.

It is claimed they to intend to make the first move for the Spain international and that it could spark a four-way battle with Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal.

The Sun also suggest Chelsea interim manager Rafael Benitez has confirmed its Boxing Day story that Frank Lampard has been told to find another club in January.

The popular midfielder was a substitute at Norwich and is tipped to also be on the bench for Sunday’s game against Everton.

And The Daily Telegraph believe former Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo is a contender to take over at Nottingham Forest.

Meanwhile, Joey Barton has been linked with a possible move to Everton – the club he supported as a boy.

Barton is currently on loan at Marseille from QPR, who would like him to agree to a termination of his Loftus Road contract by mutual consent.

French media have therefore reported that he could stay at Marseille, while the Daily Mail suggest he may return to England, as he has been touted as a potential replacement for Everton’s Marouane Fellaini.
