Burton v Fulham player ratings

Despite dominating much of the game, Fulham were taken to the wire by League Two side Burton before eventually reaching the third round. Here’s how we rated the players in an action-packed Capital One Cup clash.

David Stockdale: 7
Made a couple of decent saves but nothing remarkable. Strong in the shoot-out when it mattered.

Sascha Riether: 6
Missed a wonderful extra-time chance but was solid at the back until a nervy last 15 minutes. The move that led to Burton’s first goal started on his side.

Brede Hangeland: 8
Looked totally in command until the team suddenly started to panic in the final 15 minutes of normal time when the defence began to get overrun

Aaron Hughes: 7
A great partner for Hangeland. And like his centre-back colleague he seemed in control until the latter stages.

John Arne Riise: 7
A bullet of a spot-kick capped a tidy performance. Used the ball effectively.

Scott Parker: 8
Another encouraging display. Showed great strength and awareness throughout. A fine example of a player who plays within his talents and looks all the more effective for it.

Giorgios Karagounis: 7
Overshadowed by Parker but still a decent display. Played a vital role in building a platform for the creative attacking trio.

Bryan Ruiz: 7
Has the attributes of a top-class attacking midfielder but was not convincing enough with his final ball. Interestingly, seemed to step up more when Adel Taarabt went off.

Adel Taarabt: 9
Was the best player by some distance before the break. Exudes confidence, scored a glorious goal and had he stayed on, one suspects Fulham would have won in normal time

Ashkan Dejagah: 6
Showed glimpses of his quality but went missing too often. Needs to force himself on matches.

Darren Bent: 5
Hardly involved. His game is all about pace and relying on the right supply and there was not enough of the service he craves. Missed a good one-on-one chance when he did get an opening.

Hugo Rodallega: 7
Made a huge difference when he came on. His presence caused problems immediately . Scored a cracking goal and took his penalty with typical assurance.

Alex Kacaniklic: 6
Wasted one great opportunity and has shown much more in previous appearances, but his work-rate was impressive.

Pajtim Kasami: 5
Did nothing wrong, but made little impact in the 36 minutes he was the pitch.
