Brentford v Yeovil player ratings
Brentford’s season ended in despair at Wembley as they were beaten in the League One play-off final. Here’s how we rated the players in their defeat against Yeovil.
Simon Moore: 6
Beaten by a cracking Paddy Madden goal on six minutes and was well beaten by Dan Burn’s powerful downward header just before the break. Didn’t have a lot more to do.
Shaleum Logan: 6
The man in the right place at all the wrong times. His block on Sam Foley’s shot fell to the worst person possible in Madden and he did all possible to try sweep Burn’s header off the line, but he was a moment too slow.
Harlee Dean: 7
Solid at the back. Moved brilliantly to evade attention in the box to half the deficit after the break. He stood up to the occasion from the outset and was the inspiration in the Bees’ second-half turnaround.
Tony Craig: 6
It wasn’t third time lucky at Wembley for the former Millwall player. Burn’s header passed between him and goalkeeper Moore as James Hayter tried to force the ball through.
Jake Bidwell: 7
Provided much of the Bees’ attacking impetus in the first half as he linked up with Harry Forrester on the left. Kevin Dawson shouted for a penalty when Bidwell caught him in the box on 75 minutes, but the Glovers midfielder was the one who ended up with a booking.
Adam Forshaw: 7
Should have done better when he raced into the box on 68 minutes, shooting straight at Marek Stech. Was involved in a lot of good build-up work for the Bees, but as guilty as anyone for that lack of a cutting edge.
Toumani Diagouraga: 6
Brentford could have done with the sort of energetic performance that he produced against Swindon in the second leg of the semi-final. He seemed to lack the dynamic edge that served his team so well at times this season.
Tom Adeyemi: 6
Strong on the ball in the first half and helped lift the tempo of Brentford’s game as they searched for an equaliser.
Harry Forrester: 7
Didn’t rise to the occasion or produce the excellent standard that saw him have a huge impact against Swindon in the semi-final. His ball in to Clayton Donaldson created panic, but for the most part he failed to get the measure of Yeovil’s defence. Was substituted for Sam Saunders on 68 minutes.
Clayton Donaldson: 7
Came closest to levelling, forcing Stech into a save that was enough to earn the goalkeeper his man-of-the-match plaudits, palming away a powerful header. Broke free down the right a few times, but should have forced himself into the action more.
Marcello Trotta: 5
Didn’t have much of an impact and was the first man Uwe Rosler chose to substitute. He directed a header on goal at the end of the first half which passed as the Bees’ best effort before the break. And, of course, Brentford fans were left wondering ‘what if’ given that the Fulham loanee missed the penalty that could have sealed automatic promotion against Doncaster on the final day of the regular season.
Bradley Wright-Phillips 7
Was unfortunate that he didn’t have more time to react to Stech’s parried save from Donaldson’s header, only managing to stab at the ball and bobble it past the post. Did brilliantly to turn a volleyed effort on goal late on. He played with composure up front in a frenzied finish.
Sam Saunders: 7
Took over the wide-man role from Forrester and came on to make an instant impact by setting Forshaw free inside the box. Kept the Glovers on high alert with some dangerous deliveries.
